Xenopterans are large, insectoid sapients native to the planet Scarab. They waged a war against the Salsenes.
Appearance[]
Xenopterans resemble enormous winged ants. They have a lethal stinger used for killing prey.
Diet[]
Xenopterans eat meat.
Sapience[]
Xenopterans have a Hive Mind, where a Queen governs the whole colony. While individuals have some personality, they are psychologically incapable of going against the Queens orders.
Technology[]
Xenopterans have captured a large number of weapons from the Salsenes and the Zyrothans, and freqently use these in battle.
It is rumored that the Xenopterans are building starships. However, this remains unknown.
Castes[]
There are several Xenopteran castes.
Queen[]
The Queen is certainly the most important individual in the colony. She is born with the memories of the past seven queens. This gives her knowledge of how to cope with certain situations.
Worker[]
By far the most common caste, these Xenopterans perform jobs such as cleaning and foraging.
Drone[]
The only male caste, this insect only lives for about four years, during which he will mate with as many Queens as he can find. They sometimes serve as soldiers, as they are rather large and strong. They often command Soldiers, thus gaining the nickname "Generals".
Soldier[]
Soldier Xenopterans
This caste is responsible for combat and hive protection.
History[]
For hundreds of years, Xenopterans lived in dozens of small hives all over Scarab. However, about fifty years ago, all of the hives were united (all but one were destroyed).
The Salsenes explored this planet, seeking to colonize it. The Xenopteran War was started when the Xenopterans destroyed the first ship.
