Rihglid

A drawing of a rihglid, showing the rounded stomach, large tail fin and numerous sensory hairs.

Rihglids are the largest non-archogigian animal on Ageriul. Despite their exoskeletons, these animals have managed to grow to colossal sizes. They are the dominant subterranean herbivores of the creed-plains.

Biology[]

A large rihglid can grow up to 19 metres long, although lengths of 16 metres are much more common. Like the other type of titan, the aaark, they are a relative newcomer to the evolutionary scene. These animals shed each plate one by one. They go into a torpor when they shed their jaws and skulls, keeping as much energy as possible until they can properly dig and feed again. They have a large lower jaw which they use to scoop up the creed plants and eat them. They have much weaker jaws than many other insectomimes, due to not needing them as much.

The tallest part of a rihglid is its tail fin, which is five metres tall. Their main body is two and a half metres tall. These animals are larger than a whale shark, and can weigh 27 tons. They are mostly exothermic, as their underground homes stay at a relatively stable temperature. They need a lot of food, which is provided by the vast amounts of creed, which continously grow. They aren't fussy, though, and will eat anything they can. They can live for hundreds of years, and the largest rihglid ever found (25 metres long and 35 tons) was roughly dated to have lived for 800 years. They are covered with sensory hairs.

Behaviour[]

Rihglids, if left alone, are peaceful herd animals. They calmly dig through the soil and dirt, and young rihglids will dig through the dirt directly behind the larger individuals. When agitated, they become dangerous beasts. Their tails can send an Urahob flying, and the front end can deliver a brutal swipe from the jaw. The eggs are laid randomly as they tunnel, and will develop until ready to hatch. They will then emerge and seek out the adults by squirming along the surface. This is the most dangerous time in a rihglid's life, as they are vulnerable to attack both from the sky and from the ground. If they make it, though, these animals will have passed life's first test and, with luck, will grow into subterranean behemoths like their parents.
