The Baeffers are the most successful vertebrate-analogues on planet Koje. The number of species exceeds Earth's birds and mammals put together and include animals from half and inch tall up to seven feet tall insular forms. They are vaguely bird-like externally, although a closer look reveals several cephalopod features. Baeffers are members of the same animal group that gave rise to Graptors and Lerheegoes, but have diverged to the point of losing all of their tentacles (four of which became their legs wings, with the others either fading or becoming inner mouth parts) and gaining a full body internal skeleton, which, despite organic contains fair amounts of silicates to function similarly to Earth organisms' calcium-filled skeletons.
